More Institutions Gain In-Kind Access Through BlackRock’s IBIT

In the latest BlackRock Bitcoin update, the asset manager has reportedly lowered the minimum threshold for in-kind creations and redemptions of its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) from $25 million to $1 million. The adjustment was reportedly reflected in a recent SEC filing.

The development comes as Bitcoin trades near $78,800, down 1.4% over the past day but still up around 22% over the last week. BTC recently jumped from roughly $64,400 to almost $80,000, reigniting momentum throughout the cryptocurrency market.

BlackRock Bitcoin News: Lower Minimum Opens the Door to More Institutions

According to FinanceFeeds, the in-kind process allows authorized participants to exchange Bitcoin for IBIT shares directly instead of using cash for creations and redemptions.

The reported reduction in the minimum could make the process more accessible to smaller and mid-sized institutional participants. Registered investment advisers, family offices and smaller trading firms operating through authorized participants could potentially benefit from the lower threshold.

Retail investors, however, cannot directly redeem IBIT shares for Bitcoin. The reported adjustment applies only to the fund’s creation and redemption mechanism and does not change the process for buying or selling IBIT shares on the open market.

BlackRock’s IBIT product page listed an indicative basket of 22.65 BTC worth approximately $1,788,793.04 as of Aug. 25, 2026. The fund’s NAV was listed at $44.7252 per share, while its sponsor fee remained 0.25%.

As of Aug. 24, the fund held 768,039.86710 BTC with a market value of about $60.7 billion. It also reported $18,840.14 in U.S. dollar cash. BlackRock cautioned that the reported holdings can change and that the displayed valuations are based on prices supplied by a third-party vendor.

IBIT posted a year-to-date NAV total return of -9.86% as of Aug. 24. For the 12-month period ending June 30, 2026, its total return stood at -45.62%, compared with -45.48% for its benchmark.

Future Disclosures Could Reveal Institutional Adoption

The impact of the reported threshold change could become clearer in upcoming quarterly filings. FinanceFeeds identified the proportion of in-kind creations relative to cash creations as an important metric to monitor.

An increase in the share of in-kind activity could suggest that more institutional participants are using the newly expanded mechanism.

IBIT is designed to track Bitcoin’s price and give investors exposure to the asset through an exchange-traded product. BlackRock advises investors to review the fund’s prospectus and associated risk disclosures before making investment decisions.

Bitcoin ETF Inflows Strengthen as IBIT Leads

U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs are recording their strongest month in almost a year. On Aug. 25, the funds collectively attracted $314.37 million in net inflows, extending their positive streak to seven straight trading days.

August inflows have reached roughly $3.03 billion, putting the month only about $390 million below the record set in October 2025, with a few trading sessions still remaining.

The rebound has also sharply reduced 2026 net outflows, which have fallen to approximately $2.26 billion. Total net assets across U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs have climbed to $99.05 billion, while cumulative net inflows have reached $54.36 billion.

BlackRock’s IBIT remained the largest contributor, generating about 62% of the sector’s inflows on Monday. The renewed ETF demand coincided with Bitcoin’s approach toward $80,000, although BTC was recently trading near $78,880, down around 2% over the preceding 24 hours.

The latest figures indicate that institutional demand for Bitcoin ETFs is gaining strength, even as the cryptocurrency continues to experience significant short-term price volatility.
