Bitcoin is hovering around $79,500, with the cryptocurrency up roughly 1.1% over the past day. BTC remains stuck in the $78,000-$81,000 range, extending a period of consolidation that has defined the market since late August.
The lack of a breakout has become increasingly important. BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes believes the prolonged pause could expose weaknesses in Strategy Inc.’s Bitcoin accumulation model, rather than simply representing a temporary break in the rally.
During an appearance on Laura Shin’s Unchained Podcast, Hayes explained that Strategy’s approach depends heavily on the company being able to sell shares above the value of its underlying assets. The proceeds can then be used to purchase additional Bitcoin. If BTC loses its upward momentum, Hayes argues, that cycle becomes harder to maintain even without a major collapse in Bitcoin’s price.
As of Aug. 27, Strategy’s enterprise mNAV was approximately 1.01x, while diluted mNAV was about 0.74x. With the company trading close to the underlying value of its 840,447 BTC holdings, the valuation premium that has helped finance further purchases has narrowed considerably.
Bitcoin briefly moved above $81,000 on Aug. 25 before retreating. The pullback has left traders watching whether BTC can regain its recent highs or whether the market is entering a deeper consolidation phase.
At $79,649.68, Bitcoin remains firmly within the range established over the past few sessions. Despite Thursday’s decline, BTC has gained roughly 9.7% over the last week.
The immediate upside barrier is $81,121. Above that level, traders could look toward resistance between $82,500 and $84,700, followed by $87,500 if the rally gains strength. On the downside, $78,720 is the first support zone, with $75,604 offering the next key level. A wider moving-average support band between $65,800 and $68,300 remains an important longer-term floor.
Bitcoin Price Prediction: Key Scenarios
Bullish case: A confirmed breakout above $81,121 could clear the way for Bitcoin to test $84,700. Continued weakness in the dollar and Treasury efforts to contain bond yields could help reinforce the move.
Range-bound case: BTC could continue fluctuating between $78,000 and $81,000 while investors assess Strategy’s narrowing mNAV premium and await additional economic data.
Bearish case: Losing $75,604 could undermine the current bullish structure and increase the risk of a move toward the $68,000 region.
Derivatives positioning around major Bitcoin strikes could also influence short-term price swings as traders adjust their exposure following recent options expiries.
Bitcoin Hyper Targets Bitcoin’s Layer 2 Opportunity
Despite Bitcoin’s recent consolidation, investors who entered during the summer breakout remain in profit, with BTC still delivering double-digit monthly gains. At a market capitalization above $1.5 trillion, however, Bitcoin’s upside from current prices is becoming more difficult to achieve in percentage terms. A move from roughly $79,649 to $100,000 would represent about 25% growth.
That has encouraged some traders to explore projects attempting to expand Bitcoin’s functionality and capture potentially higher-growth opportunities.
Bitcoin Hyper ($HYPER) is positioning itself as a Bitcoin Layer 2 network with Solana Virtual Machine integration. The project is designed to support faster smart-contract activity while using Bitcoin as the underlying settlement and security layer.
The presale has generated $33,087,186.94 in funding, with the token currently priced at $0.0136853. Early buyers can also participate in staking. Its Decentralized Canonical Bridge aims to connect Bitcoin liquidity with smart-contract applications, addressing the network’s traditional limitations around programmability.
Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies remain volatile, and early-stage presale tokens can involve significantly higher risks. The information above is not financial advice, and investors should conduct thorough independent research before investing.
