XRP has jumped 22.2% in the past week to $1.58, putting the token’s rally in focus as the XRP Ledger’s revised Batch amendment approaches its September 29 activation date. Thirty of the network’s 35 validators were supporting the amendment as of September 20, giving it a clear majority but leaving the final outcome dependent on whether that support holds.
The upgrade’s potential impact on XRP, however, is less straightforward. While Batch could improve the way transactions are processed and settled on the XRP Ledger, its activation does not inherently create additional demand for the token.
That distinction comes as traders reassess XRP derivatives exposure and open interest ahead of the activation window. XRP’s price movement and the ledger’s technical developments are influenced by different factors, making it difficult to attribute the recent rally to Batch alone.
Batch Brings New Settlement Capabilities
The revised Batch amendment allows between two and eight standard XRP Ledger transactions to be combined within a single outer transaction. The outer transaction controls the execution of the bundled operations and supports four different processing modes.
One of the most notable options is All or Nothing, which is aimed at reducing settlement risk for institutional transactions. In a securities trade, the mechanism can ensure that both the asset transfer and payment are completed together or that neither is completed.
Batch also gives exchanges, wallets and marketplaces the ability to include their fees within customer transactions, allowing those fees to settle alongside the underlying trade.
Validator Votes Keep the Upgrade on Track
The amendment must receive support from at least 28 of the XRP Ledger’s 35 validators, representing more than 80%, and maintain that level for 14 consecutive days.
With 30 validators backing the proposal on September 20, the amendment is currently on course to activate on September 29 at 14:06 UTC.
The timeline remains conditional, however. Validators can change their positions before activation, and if support drops below the required threshold, the 14-day voting period starts over. Such a reset could delay activation by several weeks.
Under XRPL’s published amendment rules, two of the existing 30 supporters still have an opportunity to change their votes before the current window closes.
Batch has also had a difficult path to activation. An earlier version was withdrawn in 2026 after auditors identified a vulnerability that could have permitted unauthorized transactions. The issue did not put user funds at risk.
A revised version was released on September 14 and has undergone three external reviews. It has now reached the final stage of validator approval, marking its furthest progress since the earlier version was withdrawn.
Batch Adoption Is Key to XRP Demand
The current validator support places Batch on track for activation, but the upgrade itself does not guarantee stronger demand for XRP.
Batch can function without requiring the XRP token. As a result, its ability to combine settlement operations does not automatically translate into additional XRP purchases or liquidity requirements.
The market impact will ultimately depend on whether companies and asset managers testing the feature move from trials to actual production use. Increased settlement activity could potentially create greater demand for liquidity on the XRP Ledger, but that outcome depends on adoption rather than activation alone.
Ripple’s delivery-versus-payment functionality may expand the ledger’s usefulness for institutional transactions, yet improved infrastructure and increased demand for XRP remain separate questions.
The broader crypto market also provides context for XRP’s recent performance. Bitcoin gained 13.9% over the same seven-day period in which XRP advanced 22.2%.
That parallel movement suggests that broader market conditions were also present during XRP’s rally. It does not establish that expectations for the Batch upgrade were responsible for the move, and the available data does not isolate Batch as the rally’s sole catalyst.
Activation Is Only the First Test
If validator support remains above the required level, Batch will activate on September 29 at 14:06 UTC, making its all-or-nothing settlement capability available on the XRP Ledger.
A decline below the required support level would reset the voting period and postpone activation.
The bigger test will come after the upgrade goes live. If the asset managers and commercial projects referenced by Akinyele begin moving real transactions onto the ledger, Batch could help expand institutional settlement activity.
If that adoption fails to develop, the upgrade could still deliver technical improvements without producing a comparable increase in XRP demand. In that case, the ledger would become more capable, while the question of whether Batch can attract new XRP buyers would remain unanswered.
