Bitcoin remains range-bound between $83,000 and $83,600, even as Polymarket shows a 61% probability that Democrats will control both chambers of Congress following the 2026 midterm elections. The disconnect between changing political expectations and a relatively stable BTC price highlights the different time horizons influencing crypto markets.
Recent trading suggests that Federal Reserve policy is having a more immediate impact on Bitcoin than shifts in the political balance in Washington.
The Senate rejected the CLARITY Act on September 15. The legislation aimed to define the regulatory responsibilities of the SEC and CFTC for different categories of digital assets. Bitcoin recovered after the vote, meaning the legislative setback did not result in an immediate sustained decline.
A day later, on September 16, the Federal Reserve set its policy rate at 3.75%-4%. With 16 of 18 Fed officials expecting additional rate increases this year, the outlook remained focused on restrictive monetary policy. The Fed’s decisions have a direct effect on liquidity and financial conditions, making them an important factor for Bitcoin and other risk assets.
What Does Bitcoin’s Recent Trading Show?
Bitcoin’s latest price action indicates that traders may be responding more closely to monetary-policy expectations than to congressional developments. BTC gained after the CLARITY Act vote but came under pressure around the Federal Reserve decision.
However, the data from one week is not enough to conclude that political risk has stopped influencing Bitcoin. Election-related developments may simply have a longer pricing horizon.
Traders could be viewing the November 3 midterms as a slower-moving event, with the market potentially adjusting more significantly as election day approaches. Prediction-market probabilities have changed considerably over recent weeks, showing that expectations about congressional control remain fluid.
As of September 28, Polymarket placed the probability of Democrats controlling both chambers at 61%, while Bitcoin continued to trade within a relatively narrow range. This divergence suggests that interest rates and liquidity may be receiving more attention in the short term, while leaving open the question of how BTC might respond if election odds shift further.
The failed CLARITY Act also leaves the U.S. crypto regulatory framework unresolved. The bill sought to clarify whether the SEC or CFTC would oversee particular categories of digital assets. Without the legislation, regulatory responsibilities remain divided, with both agencies continuing their own rulemaking efforts.
That regulatory uncertainty can persist regardless of the outcome of the midterms. Agency policies and digital-asset classifications can change independently of congressional control, keeping regulation as an ongoing market consideration.
The November 3 midterms are the next major political event on the calendar, while the Federal Reserve continues to operate according to its separate monetary-policy timetable.
If the Fed maintains a restrictive stance through the remainder of the year, rate expectations could continue affecting Bitcoin even as election probabilities move in either direction.
Alternatively, if Bitcoin continues to hold its current range despite higher-rate expectations, that could provide additional evidence about how the market is absorbing tighter financial conditions. The next several weeks will offer a clearer comparison between Bitcoin’s response to Federal Reserve signals and changes in midterm election expectations.
