Circle Highlights DJ Khaled in USDC Chelsea Shirt Amid Growing Crypto Ties

Circle’s official USDC account posted a photo of DJ Khaled wearing a Chelsea jersey with USDC branding on October 5, 2026, prompting criticism over his previous undisclosed promotion of the Centra ICO for $50,000.

The post brought renewed attention to the SEC settlement tied to Khaled’s earlier crypto promotion. However, there is no evidence from the posts themselves that Circle has signed him to a new sponsorship, ambassador role, employment arrangement, or paid promotional agreement.

Why Circle and DJ Khaled Appeared Together

The image appears to reflect two separate Chelsea-related partnerships. Circle is Chelsea’s official front-of-shirt sponsor, while Khaled was featured in a promotional activation associated with the club’s separate relationship with Roc Nation, announced in May.

Because of that overlap, Khaled appearing in a Chelsea shirt carrying Circle’s branding does not necessarily indicate a direct endorsement by Circle. Neither the USDC account nor Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, who amplified the post, identified Khaled as a Circle ambassador or sponsor. The posts also gave no indication of a fee or formal agreement.

Treating the social-media exchange as confirmation of a new Circle campaign would therefore go beyond the information currently available.

The distinction matters for Circle because trust and regulatory compliance are important elements of its stablecoin business. The post itself was lighthearted, but the response demonstrated how quickly a celebrity’s previous crypto activities can create reputational concerns when linked to a financial brand.

Crypto users including Joseph Schiarizzi and Taylor Monahan criticized the apparent association by highlighting Khaled’s history with the SEC. Wazz Crypto also made a sarcastic comparison with Kim Kardashian, who separately faced an SEC penalty for failing to disclose compensation related to a token promotion. Kardashian’s case is distinct from Khaled’s.

Khaled’s own SEC case dates back to September 2017, when he promoted Centra Tech’s debit-card product to his approximately 12.4 million Instagram followers and encouraged them to purchase CTR tokens. The SEC said Centra Tech paid him $50,000 for the promotion and that he failed to disclose the payment.

The $50,000 was the compensation for the original promotional post. Khaled later agreed to a settlement totaling $152,725.

Importantly, the SEC and Department of Justice did not charge Khaled with fraud. Centra Tech’s founders were separately prosecuted in connection with the fraudulent project. Their criminal case is separate from the SEC’s enforcement action against Khaled over the undisclosed promotional payment.

The restrictions imposed under Khaled’s previous settlement have expired, so the old case does not itself prevent him from entering into a relationship with a crypto company today. But the absence of a legal restriction does not eliminate the reputational questions created by an apparent brand association.

For now, Circle’s posts have prompted renewed discussion of Khaled’s crypto history, but the available record does not establish that Circle hired or paid him or formally designated him as an ambassador or sponsor.
