China Crypto Fears Resurface After Police Visit Disrupts Solana Event in Shanghai

The Solana Foundation postponed the morning sessions of Solana Accelerate China 2026 in Shanghai on October 16 after attendees reportedly saw police officers outside the venue and were unable to enter. Organizers pointed to venue-related logistical problems but did not explain the specific circumstances behind the disruption or announce a new date.

In its notice, the foundation said it would revise the schedule after confirming alternative arrangements and notify registered participants of any changes. However, no replacement timetable had been announced in reports published on October 16.

The postponement prevented the Shanghai program from proceeding as planned, leaving attendees uncertain about when the sessions might resume. It has also prompted questions about the challenges facing Solana’s community outreach in mainland China. So far, there is no verified explanation establishing whether the incident was an ordinary venue complication or involved other factors.

The event has drawn attention because it involved an in-person gathering connected to a public blockchain project in Shanghai, where China’s strict cryptocurrency regulations create a sensitive environment for businesses and organizations associated with digital assets.

Solana Accelerate China 2026 was presented as a Solana Foundation initiative intended to strengthen engagement with the project’s regional ecosystem. The interruption is therefore relevant to developers, industry participants and businesses tracking Solana’s activities in China.

There is currently no confirmation that the gathering has been canceled permanently. The foundation has not announced a new date or provided further details about what happened at the venue. Until organizers issue an additional statement, the reason for the disruption remains unclear.

CZ Praises Solana’s Expansion Efforts in Shanghai

Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao, commonly known as CZ, recently commented on Solana’s growing presence in mainland China, where cryptocurrency businesses operate under strict regulatory restrictions.

On October 15, CZ praised Solana for establishing an office in Shanghai and running advertising campaigns across the city. He pointed out that BNB Chain had not achieved comparable access and expressed hope that one project’s progress could eventually benefit other participants in the blockchain sector.

His remarks highlighted Solana’s efforts to establish a stronger presence in China despite the regulatory challenges facing the cryptocurrency industry. The subsequent postponement of the Shanghai gathering has drawn further attention to the project’s regional activities, although no direct link has been established between the event disruption and CZ’s comments.

Without further details from the organizers or a confirmed rescheduling announcement, it remains uncertain whether the postponement will affect Solana’s broader plans for community engagement in mainland China.
