The Bitcoin Price Chart That Could Shape Traders’ Next Moves

Crude oil is nearing a crucial technical breakout that could influence inflation, interest rates and the performance of risk assets such as Bitcoin and technology stocks. West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the main U.S. oil benchmark, has entered a narrowing trading range, signaling that a potentially significant price move may be approaching.

Bitcoin traders and broader market participants are watching the chart because a sharp change in oil prices could reshape expectations for inflation and investor appetite for risk in the coming weeks.

WTI’s daily chart shows a pattern resembling a sideways funnel. The wide price swings recorded in March and April have gradually contracted, with successive lower highs and shallower pullbacks converging near $102.

Technical analysts call this a coil or pennant formation. As prices move within an increasingly narrow range, market pressure builds, often preceding a breakout. Naomi Blohm, senior market advisor at agricultural advisory firm Total Farm Marketing, highlighted the pattern on X, noting that such compression can lead to a substantial price move.

However, the chart does not indicate which direction oil will take next. Traders are preparing for either a bullish breakout or a downward reversal.

Oil’s Next Move Could Target $119 or $93

If WTI rises above the upper boundary of its pattern, currently around $105.50, the next significant resistance area would be the March and April highs between $117 and $119.

A sustained rally in oil could have broader economic consequences by increasing inflationary pressure and pushing government bond yields higher. This could strengthen expectations that interest rates will remain elevated for longer, tightening financial conditions and reducing demand for risk-sensitive investments.

Bitcoin and technology stocks could be particularly vulnerable if rising energy costs reignite inflation concerns. Oil prices have already climbed approximately 80% this year, adding to worries about the cost of living and the outlook for monetary policy.

Although Bitcoin is often described as digital gold, its trading behavior has frequently resembled that of equities. CoinDesk’s analysis of TradingView data puts Bitcoin’s 30-day correlation with the Nasdaq 100 at 0.64, reflecting a relatively strong relationship between the two assets.

Bitcoin has also developed a negative relationship with oil since the Iran war began. Its 30-day correlation with crude has dropped to minus 0.47, compared with positive 0.18 before the conflict.

This shift suggests that further gains in oil could coincide with weakness in Bitcoin. If rising crude prices also push yields higher and weigh on technology shares, cryptocurrencies may face additional selling pressure.

Conversely, a breakdown below the lower boundary of WTI’s trading range would put approximately $93 in focus.

A decline toward that level could ease inflation fears and reduce upward pressure on bond yields. Cheaper oil could also improve expectations for future interest rates, potentially supporting equities and cryptocurrencies.

WTI Breakout Could Set the Direction for Risk Assets

The next move in crude oil remains uncertain, but the outcome could influence how investors position themselves across financial markets in the weeks ahead.

Iran, a major oil exporter that has been at war with the United States since March, is reportedly preparing for the possibility of higher oil prices. Budget planners in the country are said to be considering an assumption of $130 per barrel for the coming year.

For Bitcoin traders, WTI is therefore an important macroeconomic indicator to monitor alongside cryptocurrency-specific developments. A move toward $117–$119 could reinforce inflation concerns and pressure risk assets, while a drop toward $93 could offer relief to investors.

Until crude breaks decisively out of its narrowing range, both outcomes remain possible, leaving oil’s next move as a key factor in the near-term outlook for Bitcoin and broader financial markets.
