Cathie Wood’s ARK Invest purchased roughly $9.1 million worth of Robinhood Markets (HOOD) shares on Wednesday, marking its largest investment in the company’s stock in six months. The firm’s previous major purchase occurred on April 29, when it acquired approximately $39 million worth of shares.
According to trading data released by ARK’s trading desk, the firm bought 99,418 shares across three exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The transaction was its first purchase of Robinhood stock since September 8.
The new position was distributed among the ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK), the ARK Next Generation Internet ETF (ARKW), and the ARK Blockchain & Fintech Innovation ETF (ARKF).
Based on Wednesday’s closing price of $91.43, the acquisition was valued at approximately $9.1 million. Robinhood shares fell 3.3% during the session, extending their decline over the past month to more than 23%.
The latest purchase followed a period of selling by ARK earlier in October. Between October 6 and October 9, the firm sold around $47.5 million in Robinhood shares as the stock closed between $107 and $112. Wednesday’s transaction marked a shift back toward accumulation.
The buying came after Robinhood released its third-quarter earnings, which showed that its cryptocurrency business had weakened considerably. Revenue from crypto transactions declined 55% year over year to $120 million, while cryptocurrency trading volume dropped 38% to $50 billion.
Growth in other areas of the business helped offset the decline. Robinhood reported record quarterly revenue of $1.42 billion, representing a 12% increase from the previous year.
Prediction markets generated $173 million in revenue, more than six times the amount recorded a year earlier and exceeding revenue from crypto trading. Revenue from options trading also increased 31% to $399 million.
Despite the overall revenue growth, Robinhood’s results fell short of Wall Street expectations. Revenue narrowly missed analyst forecasts, while earnings per share came in at $0.51, below the expected $0.55. Net income also fell 14% to $476 million.
The stock remained under pressure following Wednesday’s session. During premarket trading, HOOD shares declined another 1.88% to $89.70, extending the recent sell-off.
