Ethereum has attracted fresh attention from large investors after a prominent whale accumulated almost $63 million worth of ETH during the latest market correction. The sizeable purchase occurred while Ether was trading below $2,300, sparking speculation that major holders may consider the current price range an attractive entry point ahead of a possible rebound.
According to blockchain tracking platform Lookonchain, the investor acquired 27,553 ETH over a five-hour period at an average price of $2,286. The latest accumulation followed another purchase of 16,658 ETH, which was financed with approximately $38 million in USDC.
These transactions brought the whale’s total Ethereum purchases to more than $62 million, demonstrating substantial buying activity despite continued weakness in the broader market.
The investor appears to be using the recent decline to establish a large ETH position rather than waiting for stronger evidence of a market reversal.
Ethereum Whale Buying Sparks Market Bottom Speculation
Significant whale purchases during market corrections can indicate that wealthy investors are positioning themselves for a potential recovery. The rapid acquisition of more than 27,000 ETH suggests that this investor sees an opportunity in Ethereum’s current valuation.
However, the wallet’s broader investment strategy remains unknown. The purchases may be part of a long-term accumulation plan, a short-term bet on a price rebound, or a liquidity management strategy.
Despite the uncertainty, the transaction’s size makes it an important development for market participants. With more than $62 million invested, the whale has substantial exposure to Ethereum’s future price performance. The average buying price of approximately $2,286 also provides a useful benchmark for monitoring the investor’s next moves.
A sustained recovery above this level could strengthen the bullish interpretation of the purchase. Continued accumulation or holding would suggest confidence in higher prices, whereas significant transfers to exchanges might indicate plans to reduce exposure or secure profits.
Ethereum’s DeFi Ecosystem Provides Additional Support
Ethereum’s network fundamentals could also play a role in supporting the longer-term recovery outlook.
The blockchain currently has approximately $44.5 billion in total value locked across decentralized finance applications, highlighting its continued dominance in the smart contract sector. At the same time, nearly 36% of ETH’s overall supply is staked, keeping a substantial amount of Ether committed to network security.
These factors provide additional reasons for investors to remain interested in Ethereum. Its extensive DeFi ecosystem demonstrates ongoing demand for blockchain-based financial services, while staking participation reduces the quantity of ETH immediately available for trading.
However, strong fundamentals and whale purchases do not necessarily mean that the cryptocurrency has completed its correction. Broader market conditions and sustained buying demand will ultimately determine whether ETH can establish a durable bottom.
Will ETH Recover From the $2,300 Region?
The $2,280–$2,300 range remains a critical area to watch as Ethereum attempts to stabilize. If buyers continue defending this zone and fresh capital enters the market, ETH could establish a foundation for a potential upward reversal.
A stronger recovery would also put the whale’s recent investment in a favorable position, potentially reinforcing bullish sentiment among other traders and long-term holders.
For now, the key question is whether this nearly $63 million purchase represents the beginning of a wider accumulation trend among major Ethereum investors or simply an individual whale making a substantial bet while market volatility remains elevated.
