Traders on decentralized betting platform Polymarket now assign Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson a higher chance of securing the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination than former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“Yes” shares for Johnson are trading at 7 cents, implying a 7% probability of him winning the Democratic bid. That places him fourth overall, behind Gavin Newsom, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Pete Buttigieg. By comparison, Harris holds just a 5% probability, tied with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Other names in the market, including Tim Walz, Michelle Obama, and Mark Cuban, each sit at 1% odds.
Polymarket, which lets users speculate on real-world outcomes via tradeable shares, recently announced backing from 1789 Capital and appointed Donald Trump Jr., son of the U.S. President, to its advisory board.
Johnson’s Political Teasers
Johnson, the former WWE star turned Hollywood actor, has long been the subject of presidential speculation. In 2023, he revealed that political operatives approached him after a poll showed 46% of Americans would support his candidacy.
“That was an interesting poll … I was really moved by that,” Johnson told Trevor Noah on his What Now? Spotify podcast. “At the end of 2022, I got a visit from the parties asking me if I was going to run.”
While Johnson has described himself as a centrist and political independent, he endorsed Joe Biden in 2020 but declined to back him in 2024. With 392 million Instagram followers and years of high-profile exposure as both a Hollywood star and wrestling icon, Johnson commands a platform few traditional politicians can match.
