Base Network Resumes Operations After Two-Hour Downtime

The outage briefly halted transaction processing on one of Ethereum’s largest layer-2 networks.

Coinbase-backed Base resumed block production on Thursday after a disruption lasting around two hours brought the network to a standstill.

In an update, the Base team confirmed the chain is now running normally, with internal nodes syncing as expected. The root cause remains under investigation, and node operators were advised to restart their systems to restore full synchronization.

Problems first emerged at 16:03 UTC, when Base flagged mainnet block production as “unhealthy.” By 16:52 UTC, the team said it had identified the issue and was working on multiple fixes.

The incident temporarily froze activity across the network. Base has not yet disclosed what caused the invalid block or whether the failure was linked to a software bug or a consensus issue.

The network previously experienced a similar outage in August 2025.

The team said it will continue monitoring performance and provide updates as more details become available.
