Metaplanet Adds 780 Bitcoin to Treasury, Bringing Total Holdings to 17,132 BTC

Metaplanet Boosts Bitcoin Holdings to Over 17,000 BTC, Tops Non-U.S. Public Firms

Tokyo-listed Metaplanet (3350) has acquired an additional 780 bitcoin, increasing its total holdings to 17,132 BTC — the largest stash among publicly traded companies outside the United States. At current prices, the company’s bitcoin reserve is valued at approximately $2 billion.

The firm disclosed on Monday that it paid an average of 17.5 million yen (around $118,176) per coin in its latest purchase.

Metaplanet tracks a proprietary performance metric called BTC Yield, which reflects shareholder value relative to dilution. The company reported a BTC Yield of 22.5% for the period between July 1 and July 28. For the quarter ending June 30, BTC Yield surged to 129.4%, up from 95.6% in the prior quarter.

Since adopting a bitcoin treasury strategy modeled after MicroStrategy’s, Metaplanet has accumulated 17,132 BTC at an average purchase price of ¥15 million ($99,732) per coin.

Shares of Metaplanet rose 5% on Monday to close at 1,240 yen, outperforming Japan’s Nikkei 225 index, which declined 1.1%.
