Metaplanet Outpaces El Salvador After Securing $126M in Bitcoin.

Metaplanet Acquires $126M in Bitcoin, Surpasses El Salvador’s Holdings

Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet made headlines on Monday with its purchase of an additional 1,241 Bitcoin (BTC), bringing its total holdings to nearly 6,800 BTC, valued at approximately $706 million at current market prices.

The latest acquisition, worth 18.4 billion yen (around $126 million), marks the firm’s most substantial purchase since the launch of its Bitcoin Treasury Operations in April 2024. With this purchase, Metaplanet now holds more Bitcoin than El Salvador, whose Bitcoin holdings stand at 6,174 BTC, according to the country’s Bitcoin Office.

Metaplanet bought the Bitcoin at an average price of $102,119 per BTC, making it the company’s most aggressive buy to date. The firm’s BTC Yield, a proprietary indicator of Bitcoin accumulation per share outstanding, stands at 38% for Q2 2025, following substantial growth in previous quarters—95.6% in Q1 2025 and 309.8% in Q4 2024.

The investment firm’s strategy continues to closely follow the playbook of Michael Saylor’s MicroStrategy, which holds more than 555,000 BTC globally. Metaplanet aims to reach 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.

As of now, Metaplanet is the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder in Asia and ranks 11th globally, reaffirming its growing influence in the Bitcoin market.
