Musk Criticizes Federal Budget as American Debt Closes in on $37T

Elon Musk Rips ‘Debt Slavery Bill’ as U.S. Debt Races Toward $37 Trillion

Elon Musk is taking aim at Washington’s latest spending push, blasting President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” as reckless and dangerous for America’s future.

In a viral post on X, Musk called the proposal “the Debt Slavery Bill”, warning that it includes the largest debt ceiling hike in U.S. history and will saddle future generations with unsustainable obligations.

“A bill can be big or beautiful — not both,” Musk said, after resigning from his short-lived role as Trump’s efficiency czar over the legislation’s direction.

The 1,100-page package, which cleared the House on May 22, calls for deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance programs, while also delivering permanent tax breaks and more than $150 billion in new spending on defense and border enforcement.

The Congressional Budget Office estimates the plan could swell the deficit by $2.4 trillion over 10 years. Independent analysts warn that with the national debt now near $37 trillion, the bill could ignite long-term risks for U.S. creditworthiness and economic stability.

Despite growing pushback, the White House is pressing the Senate to pass the bill before July 4, casting it as a growth-friendly win. But critics like Musk say it’s a short-term political gambit with steep generational costs.
