Silk Road Founder Ross Ulbricht Is Pardoned by President Trump.

President Trump Grants Full Pardon to Ross Ulbricht, Founder of Silk Road

In a move that has caught the attention of the crypto community, President Trump has granted a full pardon to Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the controversial Silk Road darknet marketplace. Ulbricht had been serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole since 2015 after being convicted of operating a criminal enterprise and facilitating the sale of illegal substances through Silk Road.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, saying, “I just called the mother of Ross William Ulbricht to let her know that in honor of her and the Libertarian Movement, which supported me so strongly, it was my pleasure to have just signed a full and unconditional pardon of her son, Ross.”

Ulbricht’s case has gained significant attention in the cryptocurrency world, with many arguing that while Ulbricht created the Silk Road platform, he did not personally engage in illegal sales. Instead, he facilitated a space for others to trade freely, making his case a rallying point for advocates of criminal justice reform and digital rights.

Trump had promised during his campaign to address Ulbricht’s case, and he followed through on that commitment, stating at a Libertarian Party convention in 2016 that he would grant a pardon to Ulbricht if elected.

Following the announcement, the price of Bitcoin (BTC) briefly rose, suggesting that the pardon could be a sign of Trump’s intention to carry out other crypto-friendly policies. Additionally, the pardon is seen as a step towards fulfilling his promises for a more supportive cryptocurrency regulatory environment, which could include initiatives like a strategic Bitcoin reserve to boost market confidence.
