With Neiro Rights in Hand, Dogecoin Pup’s IP Owner Turns the Spotlight on Memes

Neiro IP Sparks Tensions Among Meme Tokens as Ownership Battle Heats Up

The crypto world is buzzing with a new battle for intellectual property (IP) rights, as various meme tokens lay claim to the likeness of Neiro, a Shiba Inu that has captured the attention of the community following the passing of Kabosu, the iconic dog behind the Doge meme. Own The Doge DAO, the collective that holds the original Doge meme IP, recently announced it had secured the rights to Neiro’s image, prompting a debate within the community over which NEIRO token can legitimately use the dog’s likeness.

“We’re excited to share that @kabosumama has officially granted our DAO the IP rights for Neiro,” Own The Doge stated on X. “Since Neiro’s adoption was made public, a number of tokens emerged claiming to represent her. Now, our DAO holds the rights, and we’re allowing the community to decide which token should be recognized as the ‘official’ NEIRO.”

The Neiro Token Frenzy

The adoption of Neiro by Kabosumama, who was also the owner of Kabosu, led to the creation of several NEIRO tokens across blockchain networks such as Solana and Ethereum. These tokens quickly gained traction, with some reaching substantial market values and attracting dedicated communities. However, controversy has surrounded the legitimacy of these tokens, as no official endorsement was given for their use of Neiro’s image.

Kabosumama addressed the situation directly, cautioning against unverified projects. “To clarify, I do not endorse any crypto projects other than @ownthedog $DOG, as they hold the original Doge IP. Watch out for scams, and remember, we are committed to charity and promoting Doge culture,” she posted on X.

Controversy Erupts Over ‘True’ Neiro Tokens

As the debate rages on, different token teams are asserting their positions on which NEIRO token should carry the mantle of Neiro’s legacy.

“We believe the first token launched on-chain is the true representation of Neiro,” said @Neirowoof, the team behind the first NEIRO token. “Our dedicated community has been working tirelessly to honor Kabosu and Neiro from day one. We’re the real guardians of their legacy and will continue to fight against those seeking to capitalize for quick profit.”

Meanwhile, other groups are pushing for a more inclusive approach, claiming their tokens better reflect the evolving story of Neiro and Kabosu.

Meme Tokens Face Growing Legal Scrutiny

The battle for Neiro’s IP is a part of a larger trend in the memecoin world, where IP rights are starting to matter more as tokens linked to cultural icons and memes gain popularity. In the past, meme tokens have largely operated without concern for IP issues, but that may be changing.

The case of PNUT, another popular memecoin, highlights the risks. Mark Longo, the creator of “Peanut the Squirrel,” which inspired the PNUT token, recently issued a cease-and-desist letter to Binance for trademark infringement, underscoring the growing legal concerns in the space.

Community to Decide Neiro’s Future

The future of Neiro’s IP will ultimately be decided by the community. Own The Doge DAO has opened up the discussion to the public, allowing members to voice their opinions before a formal on-chain proposal is voted on by DOG token holders.

As the debate over Neiro’s legacy continues, the outcome of this IP battle could set important precedents for the future of meme tokens and the role of intellectual property in the ever-evolving world of cryptocurrency.
