Samsung’s 250x Profit Growth Boosts Chip Stocks, but Ether and XRP Remain Flat

The largest cryptocurrencies were mostly unchanged on Thursday as pressure from the semiconductor sector began to ease after two weeks of market weakness. However, most major tokens remain down on the week, with Hyperliquid’s HYPE among the worst performers, falling 8%.

Bitcoin traded near $64,100, while ether remained around $1,905, leaving both assets nearly flat over the past 24 hours. XRP hovered at approximately $1.07, solana traded near $74, BNB stayed around $572, and TRON held close to $0.33. HYPE declined to about $54. Market activity was relatively subdued, with bitcoin volumes reaching roughly $28 billion and ether volumes around $10 billion.

Semiconductor sentiment improved after Samsung reported that chip profits had surged more than 250 times, fueled by strong demand for AI-related memory products. South Korea’s Kospi experienced a volatile session, climbing as much as 6% before reversing lower and eventually stabilizing after a steep decline of more than 40% from its June high.

Samsung’s limited share-price reaction highlighted how much investors are already pricing in from the AI chip boom. Even with profits soaring more than 250-fold, the stock gained only about 2%. SK Hynix saw a similar outcome, with a 557% profit increase failing to prevent a 17% stock decline. The market concern is not earnings growth itself, but whether companies can continue beating extremely high expectations.

Corporate earnings in the U.S. also produced mixed results. Microsoft surged nearly 9% in after-hours trading after reporting its strongest cloud growth in four years, while Meta shares dropped 8% following a weaker revenue forecast. Nasdaq 100 futures rose 1% after the index entered a technical correction on Wednesday.

Despite Thursday’s stability, the weekly performance of crypto markets remains under pressure. HYPE has dropped 8% over the last seven days, the largest decline among major cryptocurrencies. XRP is down 6%, solana has fallen 5%, dogecoin has slipped 4% to $0.07, and bitcoin has lost 3%. BNB is the only major token still holding a weekly gain, though only slightly.

The limited spillover from recent stock market volatility into crypto has been notable. Bitcoin tracked semiconductor and AI-related equities closely throughout much of July, rising and falling alongside the technology trade.

However, bitcoin remained resilient despite major market shocks, including last week’s $797 billion wipeout in U.S. mega-cap technology stocks and South Korea’s record two-day market decline. The weakness across altcoins appears to be more related to thinner liquidity conditions than broader equity market stress.
