XRP Hit Hardest as Clarity Act Vote Postponement Weighs on Market

Bitcoin and ether saw mild declines, while XRP posted the steepest drop among major cryptocurrencies, falling 5.5% over the week as the U.S. Senate left Washington without advancing the market structure bill.

Bitcoin traded near $64,300 on Friday, largely unchanged on the day and flat for the week, after lawmakers confirmed the Clarity Act would not be taken up before the August recess.

XRP lagged peers, dropping more than 2% on the day to $1.02 and 5.5% over the past week. Solana slipped over 1% to around $73, bringing its weekly loss close to 2%. Dogecoin declined nearly 1% to below $0.07, while ether held steady at $1,897 with a slight weekly dip. BNB hovered near $591, gaining about 1% over seven days. Hyperliquid’s HYPE edged down less than 1% to roughly $56 but still led major tokens with a 1.3% weekly increase.

The proposed bill aims to define which U.S. regulators oversee various digital assets and requires 60 votes to pass. Its chances remain uncertain, with several Republican senators publicly opposing it, while Democrats are pushing for stricter safeguards to prevent President Donald Trump from profiting from crypto ventures while in office.

Trump reported more than $1 billion in crypto-related income in 2025. Senate Majority Leader John Thune said a vote is expected in September, when lawmakers return on Sept. 14 with a limited window to address a packed agenda that includes government funding and a Russia sanctions bill.

Spot bitcoin ETFs recorded about $626 million in inflows between Aug. 3 and Aug. 5, helping defend the $63,000–$64,000 range but failing to push prices past resistance between $66,000 and $66,600.

Attention now turns to upcoming U.S. economic data, including the jobs report and July inflation figures. The Federal Reserve kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50% to 3.75% in July, though three officials supported a rate hike. Strong labor data or persistent inflation could strengthen the case for tighter policy, which typically weighs on bitcoin.

Despite steady inflows, bitcoin has been unable to break above $66,000. Next week’s data will likely determine whether it makes another attempt higher or retreats toward the $63,000 level.
