Crypto Week Ahead: Aug. 24–28
Bitcoin is heading into the final week of August with a 23% monthly gain, putting it on pace for its strongest August since 2017. BTC jumped 65% that month, while August has historically delivered a median return of -7%, according to CoinGlass.
The rally now faces several potential market catalysts, from U.S. inflation and economic growth figures to the Jackson Hole symposium, where investors will closely watch signals from the Federal Reserve.
“Bitcoin enters next week with considerable momentum, but also with a much higher bar to clear after its strongest weekly rally in years,” Daniela Hathorn, senior market analyst at Capital.com, told CoinDesk. Particular attention will be on Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s keynote address.
Hathorn said a dovish message that reduces the prospect of additional Fed tightening could keep the weaker-dollar and lower-yield backdrop intact. A hawkish surprise, however, could lead investors to take profits.
Hong Yea, co-founder and CEO of onchain investment platform Grvt, said markets will be watching the “collision of Jackson Hole with geopolitical risk.” Uncertainty surrounding the U.S.-Iran conflict remains, while the Russia-Ukraine war continues to pose a risk of broader escalation.
