Ripple is integrating wallet infrastructure from Stripe-owned Privy into the XRP Ledger, giving developers the ability to build applications and AI agents that can create accounts, hold digital currencies, and send payments without requiring users to manage wallet software themselves. The integration will support online service payments using XRP and RLUSD, although the amount of genuine economic activity behind the reported transactions remains unclear.
According to a release shared with CoinDesk, developers will be able to embed wallets directly into their products and authorize transfers involving XRP, Ripple’s dollar-pegged RLUSD stablecoin, and other assets issued on the network.
The technology could enable payment companies to provide dollar-linked transfers without asking customers to manage the private keys that control their funds.
Privy provides the underlying wallet infrastructure, allowing developers to avoid building these systems themselves. Its technology also supports exporting private keys or recovery phrases, giving users the option to transfer their wallets to other services.
Businesses may also use the integration to provide AI agents with funded wallets for purchasing online services. These automated programs can complete assigned tasks and make payments independently. Privy’s documentation explains that wallets managed on company servers can hold and spend funds, including through x402, a payment standard used to purchase data and other online services.
For example, an AI agent seeking paid information could receive a payment request, authorize the required transaction, and access the data after the payment has been verified. This allows software to pay for individual requests automatically without requiring a person to complete a checkout process each time.
CoinDesk contacted the XRP Ledger Foundation for details about applications using the integration and data indicating how much network payment activity is generated by AI agents.
The announcement comes as developers report a substantial increase in automated payments on the XRP Ledger.
RippleX Head of Engineering J. Ayo Akinyele said on X last week that the network had processed more than 13 million payments through x402, accounting for approximately 25% of ledger activity.
Data published by the XRPL AI Hub, which is operated by payment infrastructure developer t54, showed more than 14.3 million cumulative transactions involving 169 registered merchants as of Wednesday.
However, the total payment value is relatively small compared with the number of transactions recorded.
The dashboard showed cumulative payments of around 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD. The figures suggest that many transactions involve small amounts, consistent with automated systems paying for individual data requests or digital services rather than transferring large sums.
Ripple first introduced developer tools for this payment model in June. The toolkit enables AI agents to create wallets, check balances, and pay for services using XRP or RLUSD. In September, the company expanded the toolkit to support a payment standard developed by Stripe and payments blockchain Tempo. The update also added a mechanism for funding repeated requests with XRP instead of settling each payment separately.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Ripple and Privy said they intend to expand the integration over time. Planned additions include policy controls and tools that can cover network fees on behalf of users.
Nevertheless, creating a wallet within an application does not remove the requirement to fund the account before it can transact.
Privy’s documentation states that new XRP Ledger accounts must receive a minimum reserve of 1 XRP to become active. This means an initial XRP deposit is necessary even when an account is intended exclusively for payments using RLUSD, Ripple’s dollar-pegged stablecoin.
The reserve requirement remains a potential obstacle for applications seeking to simplify stablecoin payments, especially when onboarding customers or AI agents that do not already hold XRP.
