CoinDCX has introduced temporary restrictions on its futures market after Binance’s security breach disrupted a major source of liquidity. The move prevents traders from opening new positions, although India’s largest cryptocurrency exchange has assured users that their funds and account services remain unaffected.
The exchange announced the precautionary measure on X shortly before publication, explaining that its futures market had entered “reduce-only” mode because of developments involving a global liquidity provider.
CoinDCX did not identify the affected provider in its public announcement. However, a company spokesperson confirmed to CoinDesk that the liquidity disruption involved Binance.
Under the new restrictions, users cannot initiate additional futures trades or increase the size of existing long or short positions. Traders can still add or reduce margin on open positions, while orders already placed remain eligible for execution.
The exchange emphasized that deposits and withdrawals continue to function normally and that customer assets remain safe.
CoinDCX described the measure as temporary but has not announced when unrestricted futures trading will resume. The restriction does not extend to its other services.
The incident demonstrates how disruptions at major cryptocurrency exchanges can affect connected platforms through their liquidity arrangements. Even when a platform’s internal systems remain operational, dependence on external trading venues can force it to limit market exposure.
Binance’s Liquidity Disruption Affects CoinDCX Futures Operations
CoinDCX relies on several large international exchanges, including Binance, to support liquidity across its futures market.
Its institutional documentation describes infrastructure that streams Binance order-book information for USDT-margined perpetual contracts and routes trading activity through the connected systems.
However, CoinDCX’s trading volumes remain relatively modest compared with international derivatives exchanges such as Binance and Deribit.
CoinGecko data indicates that the platform generated slightly more than $1 million in combined spot and futures trading volume over the previous 24 hours.
Binance Reports $6.3 Billion Impact From Security Breach
The disruption follows a major security incident at Binance on October 29–30. The exchange, which is the world’s largest cryptocurrency trading platform, estimated the incident’s financial impact at approximately $6.3 billion in digital assets.
Binance’s preliminary investigation identified a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer as a possible entry point. The attacker allegedly used the device to access a service container and initiate unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
The exchange said it had not found evidence that any wallet private keys were leaked.
