Panama City Gives Green Light to Crypto Payments for Public Services

Panama City to Accept Crypto for Taxes, Fines, and Fees

Panama City is moving to embrace digital assets, with Mayor Mayer Mizrachi announcing that residents will soon be able to use cryptocurrencies to pay for various city services.

In a post on X, Mizrachi said payments in bitcoin (BTC), ether (ETH), USDC, and tether (USDT) will be accepted for taxes, permits, parking fines, and other municipal charges.

“Instead of passing new legislation, we identified a legal workaround,” he explained. “Since public institutions are required to receive funds in U.S. dollars, we’ve partnered with a bank that will handle the crypto transactions and convert them instantly into fiat.”

Mizrachi said the initiative will help integrate cryptocurrency into the city’s financial ecosystem, creating new opportunities for both residents and government.
