Bitcoin Slides as Iran Conflict Fears and Crypto Hacks Intensify Market Pressure
Bitcoin extended its losses as renewed geopolitical tensions surrounding Iran coincided with a growing number of cryptocurrency security incidents. Reports of US military strikes on Qeshm Island sparked concerns about potential disruptions to global energy supplies, while repeated hacks across the crypto sector added to investor unease.
The latest decline comes against a backdrop of weak market sentiment, reduced ETF demand and uncertainty across traditional financial markets. Bitcoin is being squeezed by geopolitical developments and a separate crisis of confidence involving the security of crypto platforms.
Reports of US strikes have introduced another complication into an eight-month conflict that has affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Brent crude climbed toward $105 per barrel as markets assessed the potential consequences for oil supplies.
US Strikes on Qeshm Island Renew Iran-Related Market Concerns
Iran-related risks returned to the spotlight following reports that American forces had carried out strikes on Qeshm Island, close to the Strait of Hormuz. US officials described the operation as defensive, although the development could make diplomatic negotiations between Washington and Tehran more difficult.
The two countries have maintained discussions aimed at ending the conflict, but efforts have yet to deliver a significant agreement.
Investors remain particularly concerned about the Strait of Hormuz because of its importance to international energy transportation. The waterway has historically accounted for approximately 20% of global oil and natural gas shipments. Any disruption could tighten supplies, increase energy costs and create additional inflationary pressure.
A sustained rise in oil prices could also complicate central banks’ efforts to manage inflation. If policymakers are forced to maintain restrictive financial conditions, demand for riskier assets such as Bitcoin could weaken further.
Equity markets across Asia also moved lower as investors considered geopolitical developments, weakness in technology shares and the approaching US midterm elections. Reuters reported a 1.4% decline in MSCI’s Asia-Pacific index excluding Japan, while South Korean stocks lost as much as 4.1%.
Bitcoin has struggled to behave like a defensive investment during the latest bout of uncertainty. Its recent performance instead reflects the sensitivity typically associated with risk assets.
Crypto Security Breaches Deepen the Market Confidence Crisis
Geopolitical uncertainty is not the only issue weighing on digital assets. Investors are also dealing with the consequences of a major security breach involving Binance and several other crypto-related platforms.
The Binance incident involved approximately $6.3 billion in crypto assets and prompted customers to move billions of dollars off the exchange. The withdrawals raised concerns about the resilience of centralized platforms and their ability to protect customer funds.
Binance said it would cover the losses. Withdrawal activity subsequently showed signs of stabilizing, but the incident has left traders with another reason to remain cautious.
Other platforms have also reported security problems. Mercado Bitcoin disclosed an incident affecting systems connected to customer-related information, while Polymarket experienced unauthorized withdrawals following a compromise involving an external service provider.
The incidents have highlighted potential weaknesses not only in exchanges but also in wallets, payment services and third-party infrastructure used by crypto applications.
Additional security reports have identified attacks involving older BTCPay Server installations and a vulnerable WordPress plugin designed to support cryptocurrency payments.
The timing creates another obstacle for a market already struggling to attract sustained investment. Repeated security failures could discourage new participants, push existing users toward self-custody or prompt some investors to reduce their crypto exposure.
What Could Help Bitcoin Recover?
Bitcoin’s recovery prospects now depend partly on developments outside the crypto industry and partly on whether digital asset platforms can restore investor confidence.
A reduction in tensions between Washington and Tehran could ease concerns about oil supplies and improve sentiment toward risk assets. However, further military escalation near the Strait of Hormuz could send energy prices higher, increase inflation worries and place additional pressure on global equities and cryptocurrencies.
Crypto-specific developments will also remain important. Investors are likely to monitor Binance’s withdrawal activity and any new reports of exchange or infrastructure breaches to determine whether confidence is returning.
For now, Bitcoin faces a combination of external economic risks and internal industry problems. Another wave of selling could undermine its recovery, while easing geopolitical tensions and a contained hacking fallout may create room for buyers to re-enter the market.
The key question is whether Bitcoin can regain stability while both global markets and the crypto industry’s security record remain under pressure.
Tether Builds a 150,000 BTC Bitcoin Treasury
Tether has revealed that its Bitcoin holdings have reached approximately 150,000 BTC, establishing the stablecoin issuer as one of the largest corporate holders of the cryptocurrency.

Zcash NU7 Upgrade Targets Three Times Faster Transactions
Zcash is preparing to introduce a network upgrade that will significantly shorten its target block time, even as governance disagreements and market weakness create uncertainty around the project.
The NU7 upgrade is scheduled for November 5 and is expected to reduce target block times from 75 seconds to 25 seconds. The deployment is planned for block height 3,543,405, according to the network’s schedule.
The proposed improvements arrive amid a separate dispute over the community-grants funding system. ZEC’s recent price weakness has added to investor concerns, leaving the market to assess whether the technical changes can offset uncertainty surrounding the project’s governance.

US Midterm Elections Put Crypto Regulation and Trump’s $5,000 Proposal Under Scrutiny
The November 3 US midterm elections could influence the political and economic conditions surrounding the cryptocurrency market, particularly through their impact on regulation, government spending and investor expectations.
Republicans are attempting to retain control of Congress, while Democrats are seeking to regain at least one chamber. The outcome could determine how much legislative support President Donald Trump receives for his economic priorities.
Crypto investors are watching three developments closely: Trump’s proposed $5,000 stimulus dividend, the outlook for stalled digital asset legislation and the continuing tensions involving Iran.
Although the election results are unlikely to immediately change the fundamentals of cryptocurrencies, they could influence expectations for liquidity, regulatory clarity and broader financial market conditions.
