Metaplanet Adds $540M in Bitcoin Despite 50% Stock Decline, Holdings Top $1.78B
Tokyo-listed investment firm Metaplanet (3350) has expanded its bitcoin portfolio with the purchase of 463 BTC, spending 7.995 billion yen ($540 million) at an average price of 17.3 million yen per bitcoin. The company now holds a total of 17,595 BTC, valued at over $1.78 billion.
The latest purchase comes as Metaplanet’s stock continues to slide, falling more than 7% on Monday to 987 yen—down nearly 50% from its June peak. Despite the pullback, the firm is positioning itself as Asia’s closest analogue to a bitcoin ETF, offering equity investors direct BTC exposure.
To date, Metaplanet has invested over 261 billion yen in bitcoin. The firm reported a BTC yield of 309.8% in Q4 2024 and 129.4% in Q2 2025. As of August 4, that figure has slowed to 52.6%, reflecting both share dilution and market volatility.
Metaplanet’s continued accumulation underscores its long-term commitment to bitcoin, even amid pressure on its share price and broader market uncertainty.
