NEAR Activity Surges as Zcash’s Zashi Wallet Uses It for Private Swaps

Activity on NEAR’s intent-based system has spiked sharply in recent weeks, driven in part by the integration of Zcash’s Zashi wallet for private swaps. Transaction volumes nearly doubled month-on-month, while unique user counts surpassed 120,000, according to Dune Analytics.

In the past 30 days alone, nearly $800 million in swaps and payments flowed through NEAR Intents, bringing cumulative totals to approximately $1.8 billion since the product launched earlier this year.

The growth reflects how NEAR Intents simplifies the cross-chain user experience. Instead of manually bridging assets or confirming multiple steps across chains, users simply specify an outcome — for example, “swap USDC on Ethereum for NEAR on Solana” — and the protocol handles routing automatically.

Data shows expanding asset and chain coverage. USDC, WETH, and emerging ecosystem tokens now dominate top-volume positions, while Ethereum, Solana, and Zcash lead on the blockchain side. Over the past week, active users reached 113,000, indicating consistent engagement rather than one-off incentive-driven activity.

Orders are bundled and matched by relayers, reducing transaction failures and compressing gas costs. This architecture is attracting traders seeking smooth cross-chain execution without juggling multiple wallets or waiting for bridges to settle.

The privacy angle adds another layer of appeal. Zashi, the mobile wallet developed by the Electric Coin Company for Zcash, now operates two live features on NEAR Intents after its October launch.

  • Zashi Swaps allow users to convert BTC, SOL, USDC, and other supported assets directly into ZEC within the app, where they can then be shielded.
  • CrossPay enables users to spend shielded ZEC and have recipients receive funds in any NEAR-supported crypto of their choice.

This integration is significant as Zcash has quadrupled in price over the past month, bringing the token back into market conversations. By providing a seamless on-ramp and off-ramp to NEAR Intents, Zashi enhances usability for everyday participants while making private ZEC practical for real-world transactions.

The Zashi–Intents loop sets a model for other privacy wallets, where NEAR Intents handles the complex cross-chain routing in the background while the wallet front-end focuses on user experience and privacy.
