Sony has unveiled a new Soneium incubation initiative designed to support blockchain-based entertainment projects spanning PlayStation games, anime, and digital collectibles. The program could expand opportunities for onchain gaming and fan participation, although the company has not announced any direct cryptocurrency integration with PlayStation.
The Sony Onchain Entertainment Incubation Program opened for applications on October 29 and will accept submissions until December 2026. It invites startups and creators to develop entertainment products powered by Soneium, Sony’s blockchain network.
Successful applicants may gain access to technical infrastructure, marketing resources, business development support, community-building opportunities, and potential investment consideration. Sony aims to help developers turn early-stage blockchain experiments into commercially viable entertainment products that provide tangible value to users.
Soneium Incubation Program Covers Gaming, Anime, and Digital Assets
The program targets several entertainment sectors, extending beyond conventional blockchain games. Its areas of interest include console, PC, and mobile gaming, along with anime, manga, music, films, esports, immersive experiences, and creator communities.
Sony is also seeking applications that use blockchain technology to create new ways for audiences to interact with entertainment intellectual property. Possible projects could involve digital collectibles, fan communities, merchandise, and interactive platforms that give users a more active role in creator-led ecosystems.
Applicants must show how their products connect entertainment content, intellectual property, and onchain technology. Integration with Soneium is required, although projects can use multiple blockchains if Soneium remains meaningfully incorporated.
The company has already conducted two incubation initiatives. In 2024, Soneium Spark selected 32 projects from more than 1,700 applications. Soneium For All followed in 2025, choosing 11 projects from over 250 submissions.
The latest program builds on these efforts by concentrating more directly on entertainment use cases. Sony wants to support products that connect digital assets, content, and fan communities to encourage sustained engagement.
PlayStation Blockchain Speculation Returns, but Crypto Integration Remains Unconfirmed
Sony’s announcement has renewed interest in its broader blockchain strategy, particularly the possibility of future projects connected to PlayStation. By explicitly including PlayStation games among its target categories, the program gives independent developers and startups an opportunity to create gaming and entertainment experiences compatible with Soneium.
Anime is another important area, reflecting the strong communities surrounding popular franchises and character-based intellectual property. Developers may explore blockchain-based collectibles and new interactive experiences that deepen relationships between fans and entertainment brands.
However, Sony has not confirmed plans to introduce cryptocurrency payments, tokens, or other blockchain functionality directly into PlayStation games. The initiative instead focuses on helping independent teams develop entertainment products using Soneium’s infrastructure.
The selection process is scheduled to run from November 2026 through March 2027, with successful applicants receiving support on a rolling basis. Participation does not guarantee funding, as investment opportunities will be evaluated separately.
Overall, the initiative reflects Sony’s effort to expand Soneium’s role in digital entertainment. By encouraging projects across gaming, anime, and digital collectibles, the company is seeking blockchain applications that offer practical benefits to creators and their audiences.
